%0 Journal Article %T Education and Educational Institutions In the District of Ala£¿ehir In the Mid 19 th Century %A Abdullah Do£¿tekin %J - %D 2018 %X With the proclamation of Tanzimat reform, it has emerged as a necessity for the Ottoman empire to carry out a new educational reform in parallel with the modernization efforts. This was because the success of the reforms carried out on the administrative, financial and military fields would be undertaken by a trained bureaucratic staff stationed there. The government that was not pleased with the madrasahs and Ottoman elementary-primary school under the strong influence of the religious hierarchy had the only resort to found modern educational institutions like primasy, secondary and high schools. This study provides information about the madrasahs in the center of the Ala£¿ehir district and the number of teachers and students in educational institutions that belonged to Muslims and non-muslims.
