These philosophers based their understanding of the universe on the idea of formation. Both philosophers have tried to understand the reality by placing the concept of being on the basis of formation. According to Heraclitus, the universe has constantly been in process of formation and evolution. Everything keeps changing constantly. Nothing remains the same. These changes occur in the form of development or transformation into something else. The change in the universe is not arbitrary and evolves within the ongoing struggle with the conflicting ideas such as good-bad, day-night, war-peace. Logos is the one who regulates everything; the formation and change in the universe. Whitehead, like Heraclitus, is against the understanding of static universe. According to Whitehead, there is a constant formation and change in the nature. To understand the concept of being and universe one needs to understand the nature. Nature is not something mechanical, deterministic, abstract and artificial but it is a dynamic and organic whole. Due to the nature of formation, everything in nature is related and dependent on each other. Formation of the universe was contingent upon an array of events. As the formation and change is constant, the real world becomes the world of possibilities. The determining factors of the formation and change is not the substance but the principles of creativity and continuity. These two principles are also two conflicting forces that complement each other. Although lived in different eras, Whitehead and Herakleitos, in their ontologies, reached the idea of ¡°unlimited universe¡± which they considered a dynamic and organic structure %K Herakleitos %K Whitehead %K Logos %K Bir %K S£¿n£¿rs£¿z Evren %K S¨¹re£¿ Felsefesi %U http://dergipark.org.tr/kaygi/issue/39865/475145
