%0 Journal Article %T CEM£¿L CEM AND THE ¡®CEM¡¯ HUMOUR MAGAZINE DURING THE REPUBLICAN PERIOD %A Yasin KAYI£¿ %J - %D 2018 %X Cemil Cem, one of the most notable names of the Turkish caricature, gained reputation with his cartoons and his magazine Cem during The Second Constitutional Period in the Ottoman Empire. His published Works in this period help him acquire titles such as ¡°the Master¡± and ¡°the father of the Turkish caricature¡±. However the Artist entered a long period of silence with the closure of his magazine in 1912, after 15 years in 1927, he started re-circulating his cartoons. In 1927, he participated in the enthusiasm that the Republican Regime brought with his republished magazine Cem. In this process he aimed at serving his country and the new regime with his works. But his caricatures got a serious reaction and he had to face with cases and even imprisonment. Therefore before long, he stopped publishing his magazine in 1928. Four months after the Letter Revolution he tried his chance again. This time his initiatives and works also supported by the Government.
