%X The Chinese Rites Controversy was a significant historical event on the relations between China and the West during the period from the seventeenth to eighteenth century. At first, it was only an internal dispute between the Catholic missionaries in China, yet it finally evolved into a dispute between the Qing government and Vatican. Thus, the relationship between Qing government and Vatican and even the whole western world reversed sharply.
