%X This study evaluated ¦Á-galactosidase production by two Bacillus strains SPE10 and SPE15 isolated from effluent sample. Various physico-chemical parameters such as pH, temperature, incubation period, and effect of different carbon and nitrogen sources were studied in order to determine the optimum conditions for ¦Á-galactosidase production by both the strains. The incubation time of 72 h and 50¡ãC with the presence of raffinose and peptone favoured ¦Á-galactosidase production in both the strains. pH 8 and 7 were found to be optimum for SPE10 and SPE15 respectively. Purified enzymes showed molecular weights of 81 and 78 kDa revealed by SDS-PAGE
