The species, new to the Croatian flora, grows on a calcareous substrate within an artificial Pinus nigra forest along with some small holm oaks (Quercus ilex). The herbaceous layer is characterized by vernal thermophilous therophytes, mainly with euri- or steno-Mediterranean distribution. We also underline the difficulty of distinguishing in the field M. pentandra from Stellaria pallida, whose main diacritical features are also analyzed.
