%X Sa£żetak The involvement of general practitioners in the system and practice of psychiatric care is a complex and has many specific issues. The place, role and importance of general practitioners in the field of psychia-try are keystones between medicine and society, which essentially shapes the traditional role of physi-cians. That space is the context in which the role of general practitioners in psychiatry is viewed. Psy-chiatry, more than in other disciplines, is dominated by the eclectic principle as opposed to the integra-tive holistic principle. The general practitioner should take into account that the place and role in psy-chiatry is determined by himself, but that role is determined at the same time by a number of circum-stances that are completely independent of his knowledge, inclination and potential
