This comparison induces the proportions of scientific and general notions with the comprehension of readings from the past. In the focus is the oeuvre of Junije Palmoti£¿, included in the criticism of the £¿modern£¿ position of the notion of the nation (with remarks of Henfried M¨¹nckler and Caspar Hirchi), especially when contrast with Mme de Sta£¿l, Montesquieu and Voltaire. Palmoti£¿¡¯s oeuvre is for Croatian literature that Voltaire is for the French literature. A contrastive reading of papers of B. Vodnik, W. Potthoff, R. Bogi£¿i£¿, N. Batu£¿i£¿, V. Bogi£¿i£¿, F. Ferluga-Petronio, D. Fali£¿evac and D. Mrde£¿a Antonina gives the clearer conception of the nation spirit in the ancient croatian literature.
