This has created issues in our communities which impacts the overall achievement of the sustainability tasks. In this context, urban design can play a major role for the creation of sustainable communities while addressing the socio-cultural interests¡¯ in-addition to the environmental sustainability concerns. This paper will provide an overview of the significant issues of sustainability in Canadian sub-urban communities and explore the urban design strategies used to deal with community sustainability issues focusing the town of Clarington in Ontario as a case study.
