%X We present a graphical review of the research on visual languages in the last 20£¿years. In particular, we gathered and analyzed the data about a set of publications in the field from 1995 to 2014. Visual techniques employed include graph-based visualization such as collaboration, co-citation, and co-word networks. We also adopted geographical views, alluvial diagrams, and timelined charts. The produced charts allowed us to have a deeper knowledge on the field of visual languages and on the scientific community working on it
