%X This paper analyzes the role of the dog in the work of two modern Italian writers, selecting from each of the texts in which they formulate a peculiar role for the animal represented in their works. The dog is sometimes capable of being the key that opens a magical world and becomes the counterpart to humanity, harboring the feelings that modernity and fascist politics displaced during the crucial time between 1922 and 1945
