Synaptic terminals of dopaminergic SN neurons within the striatum were analysed. Pre-synaptic terminals were visualised using reactivity for the dopamine transporter, DAT (green, 488£¿nm). Images were taken of pre-synaptic terminals surrounding a post synaptic neuron, post synaptic regions were visualised using reactivity for the dopamine D2 receptor (red, 546£¿nm). Pre and post synaptic volume was measured in tissue from patients with PD (a), DLB (b), AD (c) and in age matched controls (d).
