It is a hugely depressing fact that, despite the availability of effective treatments and evidence-based guidelines, outcomes have stalled, prompting the recent Lancet asthma commission.[1] The fact is that if the basics are done well by health-care professionals and patients and their families, asthma is a simple disease to manage.
