%0 Journal Article %T Bulgarian Surnames on Stems from Balkan Languages %J The Balkans %D 2017 %X The article deals with the origin, word-building structure and primary meaning of 41 surnames formed on the following 12 stems, borrowed from the Turkish and/or Romanian languages: 1) §¢§Ñ§Ù§Ñ§Ú§ä§à§Ó isn¡¯t from the CN §Ò§Ñ§Ò§Ñ§Ú§ä ¡®husky; swashbuckler¡¯, but from the Turk. FN Bayazyt; 2) §¢§Ñ§Ù§Õ§Ñ§â§à§Ó is from the Rom. b£¿zd¨¤r£¿ ¡®hornet¡¯; 3) §¢§à§Ù§Ñ§Ü§é§Ú§Ö§Ó isn¡¯t from §Ò§à§Ù§Ñ§Õ§Ø§Ú§ñ ¡®producer/vendor of boza (millet-drink)¡¯, but from the Turk. bozak£¿£¿ ¡®swine-herd¡¯; 4) §¢§à§Ù§Ñ§â§à§Ó isn¡¯t from *§Ò§à§Ù§Ñ§â ¡®producer/vendor of boza¡¯, but from the Rom. buz¨¤r ¡®cock-chafer¡¯; 5) §¢§å§Ù§Ñ§Õ§Ø§Ú§Ö§Ó is from the Turk. buza£¿£¿c£¿ ¡®calf-breeder; 6) §¢§ì§Ù§ì§â§à§Ó is from the Rom. b£¿z£¿r ¡®lamb¡¯s caul¡¯; 7) §¤§ð§â§Þ§Ö§Ù§à§Ó isn¡¯t instead of the SN §¤§ð§Ý§Þ§Ö§Ù§à§Ó, but from the Turk. g£¿rmez ¡®who does not see; blind¡¯; 8) §¥§ì§Ý§Ô§ì§é§Ö§Ó isn¡¯t from the dial. §Õ§ì§Ý§Ô§ì§é ¡®tall man¡¯, but from the Turk. dalg£¿£¿ ¡®diver¡¯; 9) §ª§Ý§Ñ§Ü§à§Ó (and §µ§Ý§Ñ§ä§Ñ§â§à§Ó) is from the Turk. ulak ¡®messenger¡¯; 10) K§Ú§Ý§î§à§Ó§ã§Ü§Ú isn¡¯t from the FN *§¬§Ú§Ý§î§à, but from the Turk. k£¿le ¡®slave¡¯; 11) §¬§î§à§ã§ä§Ñ§â§à§Ó is from the Turk. *k£¿star ¡®drummer¡¯; 12) §³§å§ä§å§Ý§à§Ó is from the Turk. s¨¹to£¿ul ¡®boy given milk by a wet-nurse¡¯ (milk-son)¡¯ %K common noun^ first name^ surname^ stem^ suffix^ wordbuilding structure %U http://journals.uni-vt.bg/balkans/eng/vol5/iss1/20
