In the IELTS speaking test, it is clearly stated in the band descriptor that students’ use of various pronunciation features, including the enunciation of third-person singular, is tested and assessed. However, the author found out in a survey that teachers have neglected this pronunciation feature in traditional classrooms. As a consequence, many learners are unaware of the pronunciation mistakes they may have made despite frequent occurrences. Based on the Noticing Hypothesis Theory, a language point can only be acquired after being noticed by the learner. Therefore, it is proposed that the teacher offer different ways of corrective feedback in an IELTS speaking class to help learners notice the pronunciation feature of third-person singular, thus supporting their employment of this feature in IELTS speaking test and daily discourse.
