In this experiment, the root length of Codonopsis pilosula reached the maximum under the fertilizer treatment of using urea 120 kg/hm2 and diammonium phosphate 375 kg/hm2 (N1P3); fertilizer treatment of using urea 150 kg/hm2, and diammonium phosphate 300 kg/hm2(N2P2) was most beneficial to the increase of root diameter and root dry and fresh mass of Codonopsis pilosula; the most suitable fertilizer treatment for the accumulation of lobetyolin and syringin was N1P3; mass fraction of atractylenolide Ⅲ reached the highest by using urea 120 kg/hm2 and diammonium phosphate 225 kg/hm2 (N1P1). This study showed that, N and P fertilizers were beneficial to the root growth and the accumulation of lobetyolin, syringin, and atractylenolide Ⅲ of Codonopsis pilosula, and the best treatment of fertilizer were N1P3 and N2P2.
