Empirical analysis of local opposition to energy projects in the US reveals that the “local” context, while overlooked by most previous studies, turns out to be critical in explaining mobilization mechanisms. Putting Social Movements in Their Places sets the stage for a new generation of scholarship based on extensive fieldwork and knowledge of cases and is also inspiring for the study of social governance in contemporary China %U http://src.ruc.edu.cn/CN/abstract/abstract205.shtml
