Numerous epidemiological studies have demonstrated an intimate relationship between vascularcalcification and osteoporosis. Vascular calcification accelerates the progress of osteoporosis, and osteoporosis patients alsoare discovered simultaneously suffering vascular calcification. Vascular calcification is an actively regulated process andshares many features with bone development and metabolism. The excessively deposited calcium in vascular walls is frombones. The calcium traffic is bidirectional between vessel walls and bones. Calcium, which is transferred to vessel wallsfrom bones induced by vascular endothelial dysfunction, promotes muscle contraction, blood coagulation, inflammatoryprocess, and the restoration of blood vessel walls. Repeated endothelial dysfunction leads to the excessive calciumtransporting from bones to vessel walls, inducing ultimately vascular calcification and osteoporosis
