However, “Emei” was not related to Yamen Mountain; it is also rarely accepted that the shape of the Mountain is like the eyebrow of beauty; and it did not get its name from the River Er. At the early stage, the word “Emei” was actually related to the spread and fuse of Buddhism, instead of mountains and rivers. This thesis tries to study the semantic origin of “Emei” from an etymologic perspective, based on the research of ancient chronicles, archaeological findings of early Buddhism in the Southern Silk Road and phonetic investigation. This thesis holds that the pronunciation of “Ami,” the first part of the Buddhist term “Amitabha,” was recorded as “Emei” when Chinese characters began to use in this region. %K 峨眉 %K 蛾眉 %K 牙门 %K 早期佛教 %K 南丝路 %K 阿弥< %K /br> %K Emei %K Yamen %K Buddhism at early stage %K south Silk Road %K Ami %U http://www.fdwkxb.fudan.edu.cn/CN/abstract/abstract2232.shtml
