%0 Journal Article %T adiabaticdensitysurface,neutraldensitysurface,potentialdensitysurface,andmixingpath* %A huang %A rui-xin %J 热带海洋学报 %D 2014 %X ?inthispaper,adiabaticdensitysurface,neutraldensitysurfaceandpotentialdensitysurfacearecompared.theadiabaticdensitysurfaceisdefinedasthesurfaceonwhichawaterparcelcanmoveadiabatically,withoutchangingitspotentialtemperatureandsalinity.forawaterparceltakenatagivenstationandpressurelevel,thecorrespondingadiabaticdensitysurfacecanbedeterminedthroughsimplecalculations.thisfamilyofsurfaceisneutrallybuoyantintheworldocean,anddifferentfromothersurfacesthatarenottrulyneutrallybuoyant.inordertoexploremixingpathintheocean,amixingratiomisintroduced,whichisdefinedastheportionofpotentialtemperatureandsalinityofawaterparcelthathasexchangedwiththeenvironmentduringasegmentofmigrationintheocean.twoextremesituationsofmixingpathintheoceanarem=0(nomixing),whichisrepresentedbytheadiabaticdensitycurve,andm=1,wheretheoriginalinformationiscompletelylostthroughmixing.thelatterisrepresentedbytheneutraldensitycurve.therealityliesinbetween,namely,0
