%X exergyistheamountofworkobtainablewhensomematterisbroughttoastateofthermodynamicequilibriumwiththecommoncomponentsofthenaturalsurroundingsbymeansofreversibleprocesses,involvinginteractiononlywiththeabovementionedcomponentsofnature.thispaperpresentsstandardchemicalexergyvaluesfor85elements.referencespeciesintheatmosphere(air),dissolvedinthehydrosphere(oceans),andcontainedinthelithosphere(minerals)areusedforthesecalculations.standardchemicalexergyvaluesofelementswerecalculatedfromtabulatedvaluesobtainedforstandardconditions(anambienttemperatureof298.15kandanatmosphericpressureof0.1mpa).verylowconcentrationsofelementsintheatmosphereandoceansandtheabundanceofelementsintheearth'scrustarenolongerusedindeterminingreferencestatesforchemicalelements.liquidandgasmixturesgenerallyarenotusefulasreferencestates.asaresultoftheworkinthispaper,atableofthechemicalexergyvaluesofmanyelementsintheperiodictableunderstandardconditionswastabulated.
