%X ？operatinganinternationalarchivefordigitalinformationresourcesbyarelativelysmallorganizationasthekoninklijkebibliotheek(kb)asksforafirmfoundationofitspolicy.continuingresearchanddevelopmenteffortstosecurepermanentpreservationandaccesstoelectronicinformationonanationalandinternationalscalerequiresubstantialfinancial,technicalandstaffingcommitments.cooperationinsharingresourcesandknowledgeiscalledfor.inthenationalcontextofthenetherlandsthekbrecentlytooktheinitiativetobuildthenationaldigitalpreservationcoalition.？allrelevantsectorsofdutchsocietyarerepresented.itsaimistodevelopanationalinfrastructureandtoassignclearresponsibilities.intheeuropeanarenathekb,togetherwiththebritishlibrary,startedtheeuropeanallianceforpermanentaccesstotherecordsofscience.theallianceworkstowardsthewidespreadandjointresponsibilityformaintainingtherecordsofsciencebyallmajorstakeholders,includingnationalgovernmentsandtheeu.intheglobalcontextthekbdevelopedtheconceptofthe“safeplacesnetwork”.thisnetworkwillincludealimitednumberofinstitutionswithcertifieddigitalarchivesforscientificpublications,sharingresponsibilityforcomplete,world-widecoverageandallocatetasksaccordingly.
