%X SincethemultilayeredandmultifunctionalnatureofthepterosaurianflightmembranewasfirstdescribedonthebasisofsuperblypreservedmaterialfromtheSolnhofenLithographicLimestone(UpperJurassic,SouthGermany)andtheLowerCretaceousSantanaFormationofNEBrazil(Martill&Unwin1989,Tischlinger&Frey2002),subsequentinvestigationsofseveralRhamphorhynchusspecimensunderultravioletlighthaveconfirmedthepresenceofseverallayersandlaunchedthefirstbiomechanicalanalysisofthepterosaurianflightmembrane(Freyetal.2007).
