%X AsedimentaryprofileexposedinsoilquarriesafewkilometersnorthofNoenSa-ngadistrict,Chaiyaphumprovince,NEThailand,revealsaQuaternarygeologicalhistory.Thelowerpartofthesoilprofileisagraveldepositcharacterizedbysub-angulartowell-roundedpebblesrepresentinganabandonedriversedimentarydeposit.Thegravelbedinsomeplacesiscoatedbyironoxideasathinlayerofferricreteattheuppermostpart.Theupperpartofthesoilprofileisabrightreddishbrownstructurelesssanddepositwithfiningupwardsedimentarystructureatthebasalportion,theYasothonsoilseries.Apieceoftektitewasdiscoveredatthecontactboundarybetweenthetwosedimentaryunits.Itischaracterizedbyanirregularshapewithasmoothconcavedsurfaceregardingasanexternalmoldofapieceofwell-roundedpebble.Thispieceoftektiteindicatesthatasolidifiedtektitehadfallenfromhighskythenwasremeltedintoaplasticformpriortoreachandpartlycoverapieceofwell-roundedpebble.Theseevidencessuggestthattherewasameteoriticorcometaryimpactonourearthsurfacesomewhereintheregionthencatapultednumbersofmeltedsilicaejectawithvastvolumeofdustintothesky.Themeltedsilicaejectaweresolidifiedintosplash-formtektiteswithvariousshapeswhiletheywereinthehighsky.Afterthatthetektiteshadfallendownandremeltedintoaplasticformpriortoreachthegroundsurfaceandthensolidifiedasatektitedepositfollowedbylarger-sizedsedimentsandangularquartzfragmentsformingafiningupwardsedimentarystructure.Thefinersedimentsweregraduallysettleddownformingabrightreddishbrownstructurelesssanddeposit,theYasothonsoilseries.Thismeteoriticimpacteventoccurredatabout0.77Maagoastheevidenceoftheprevioustektiteradiometricdating.
