%X ThispaperreportsanewtransgenictobaccolineNC89resistanttobothtobaccomosaicvirus(TMV)andcucumbermosaicvirus(CMV).Itdealswiththedetailsoffieldexperi-mentsofthewholeprocessofsegregationandselectionoftheprogeniesoftransgenicplantpopu-lation.Byusingthegenetransfertechnics,sometransgenicplantsresistanttomosaicdiseasefromaflue-curedtobaccocultivarNC89wereobtainedingreenhousein1989.Thereafter,throughfieldinoculationandselectionfromthe2ndand3rdgenerations,ahomozygouslineresistanttobothvirusesandwithgoodqualitieswasbredout.Theinheretantstabilityoftheresistanceofthenewlinewasconfirmedthroughthe4thto6thgenerations.In1992,thetransgenicresistantlinewasplantedabout7000hectaresinHenanprovince.Therelativeeffectofcontrollingmosaicdis-easesoftobaccowas50—70%.Theout-putvalueincreased30—50%perunitarea.Thisisanewexampleofgrowingatransgenicvirus-resistantPlantinlargescaleinChina.
