%X Thereisevindenceshowingthatstresssusceptibilityindex(SSI)(1一Yd/Yp)/(1—(?)d/(?)p)usedasameasureofdroughtresistanceofcroponthefieldisanalteredformofdroughtresistancecoefficient(DRC)(Yd/Yp).ThecorrelativecoefficientSSIandDRCisr=-1.Therefore,theSSIdoesn'timprovethedefectoftheDRC.Aftertwoyearsexperimentsper-formedbyusingthirtywinterwheatvarietiesastrialmaterials,theconceptofdroughtresistanceindexincropswasputforward.Itsexpressingequationis:theyieldindrylan×droughtresis-tancecoefficient/averageyieldindryland.Itmakesthedroughtresistancecoefficient(physicalindex)correlatewellwiththeyieldindryland(agronomyindex)andissuitableforbreeder.
