%0 Journal Article %T Smallestbittertastereceptor(T2Rs)generepertoireincarnivores %A Ling-Ling HU %A Peng SHI %J 动物学研究 %D 2013 %R 10.11813/j.issn.0254-5853.2013.E3.E75 %X Bittertastereceptionispresumablyassociatedwithdietaryselection,preventinganimalsfromingestingpotentiallyharmfulcompounds.Accordingly,carnivores,whoencounterthesetoxicsubstanceslessoften,shouldhavefewergenesassociatedwithbittertastereceptioncomparedwithherbivoresandomnivores.Toinvestigatethegeneticbasisofbittertastereception,weconfirmedbittertastereceptor(T2R)genespreviouslyfoundinthegenomesequencesoftwoherbivores(cowandhorse),twoomnivores(mouseandrat)andonecarnivore(dog).Wealsoidentified,forthefirsttime,theT2Rrepertoirefromthegenomeofotherfourcarnivorespecies(ferret,giantpanda,polarbearandcat)anddetected17-20bitterreceptorgenesfromthefivecarnivoregenomes,including12-16intactgenes,0-1partialbutputativelyfunctionalgenes,and3-8pseudogenes.BoththeintactT2RgenesandthetotalT2Rgenenumberamongcarnivoreswerethesmallestamongthetestedspecies,supportingearlierspeculationsthatcarnivoreshavefewerT2Rgenes,herbivoresanintermediatenumber,andomnivoresthelargestT2Rgenerepertoire.Tofurtherexplainthegeneticbasisforthisdisparity,weconstructedaphylogenetictree,whichshowedmostoftheT2Rgenesfromthefivecarnivoreswereone-to-oneorthologsacrossthetree,suggestingthatcarnivoreT2Rswereconservedamongmammals.Similarly,thesmallcarnivoreT2Rfamilysizewaslikelyduetorareduplicationevents.Collectively,theseresultsstrengthenargumentsfortheconnectionbetweenT2Rgenefamilysize,dietandhabit. %K T2R %K Bittertaste %K Carnivores %K Duplication %U http://www.zoores.ac.cn/CN/abstract/abstract3347.shtml
