%0 Journal Article %T Newobservations-witholderonesreviewed-onmassmigrationsinmillipedesbasedonarecentoutbreakonHachijojima(IzuIslands)ofthepolydesmiddiplopod(Chamberliniushualienensis,Wang1956):Nothingappearstomakemuchsense %A Victor Benno MEYER-ROCHOW %J 动物学研究 %P 119-132 %D 2015 %X Massaggregationsandmigrationsofmillipedesdespitenumerousattemptstofindcausesfortheiroccurrencesarestillanenigma.Theyhavebeenreportedfrombothsouthernandnorthernhemispherecountries,fromhighlandsandlowlandsofbothtropicalandtemperateregionsandtheycaninvolvespeciesbelongingtotheordersJulidaandSpirobolida,PolydesmidaandGlomerida.Accordingtothemainsuggestionsputforwardinthepast,massoccurrencesinDiplopodaoccur:(1)becauseofalackoffoodandapopulationincreasebeyondsustainablelevels;(2)forthepurposeofreproductionandinordertolocatesuitableovipositionsites;(3)tofindoverwinteringoraestivationsites;(4)becauseofhabitatdisruptionandchangesinthelocalenvironment;(5)asaconsequenceofweatherconditionstheyear(orwinterandspring)before.Arecentoutbreak(November2014)ofamassmigrationofthepolydesmidChamberliniushualienensisWang1956ontheJapaneseIzuIslandofHachijojima300kmtothesouthofTokyogavethisauthoranopportunitytoreviewtheexistingliteratureonmillipedemassmigrationsandtocarryoutadditionalobservationsonthephenomenoninthefieldaswellasthelaboratory.HithertounreportedheavyinfestationswithphoreticdeutonymphsofthemiteHistiostomasp.aswellasdensepopulationsofinternalrhabditidnematodes(Oscheiuscf.necromenaandanunidentifiedspeciesofthegenusFictor),suggestthatinfestationsofthiskindcouldbenecromenicandeitherhavebeenacontributingfactorforthemassmigrationorbeenaconsequenceofsomanyindividualsoccurringtogetheratcloseproximity.Itisconcludedthatmassmigrationsandaggregationsinmillipedesdonothaveonecommoncause,butrepresentphenomenathatoftenareseasonallyrecurringeventsandappearidenticalintheiroutcome,butwhichhaveevolvedasresponsestodifferentcausesindifferentmillipedetaxaandthereforeneedtobeexaminedonacase-to-casebasis. %K Myriapoda %K Spawningmigration %K Aggregationbehaviour %K Diplopodcommensalsandparasites %U http://www.zoores.ac.cn/CN/abstract/abstract3638.shtml
