%0 Journal Article %T Improvingtheefficiencyofadirectethanolfuelcellbyaperiodicloadchange %A Andrzej Jablonski %A Adam Lewera %J ´ß»¯Ñ§±¨ %P 496-501 %D 2015 %R 10.1016/S1872-2067(14)60226-6 %X £¿Wepresentasimplemethodtoincreasetheefficiencyofadirectethanolfuelcellbyaperiodicmodulationoftheload(pulsedmode).Thefuelcellwasperiodicallyshortcircuitedwitharesistor(1¦¸)forafewseconds(highloadperiod)followedbyalowloadperiodofupto100swhentheresistorwasdisconnected.Theopencircuitvoltage(OCV)valuesbeforeandaftertheshortcircuitofthecellshowedanincreaseofupto70mV.ThehigherOCVwasduetotheoxidationandremovalofstronglyadsorbedCOduringtheelectricshortcircuitwhentheelectricpotentialoftheanodewasincreasedtobeclosetothecathodepotential.Thedepoisonedanodesurfacewasmuchmoreactivedirectlyaftertheshortcircuit.TheslowdecreaseoftheOCVobservedaftertheshortcircuitwascausedbythesubsequentpoisoningoftheanodesurface,whichcanbeneutralizedbyanothershortcircuit.Ingeneral,astableincreaseincellperformancewasobtainedbyrepetitionoftheelectricshortcircuit.Thedatashowedthatthepulsemodegaveanincreaseinthepowergeneratedbythedirectethanolfuelcellbyupto51%andwas6%onaverage.ItisanticipatedthatthismodeofoperationcanbeusedalsoindifferenttypesofpolymerelectrolytemembranefuelcellswhereCOpoisoningisaproblem,andafteroptimizationoftheparameters,amuchhighergaininefficiencycanbeobtained. %K Ethanolelectrooxidation %K Electrocatalysis %K Directethanolfuelcell %K Polymerelectrolytemembranefuelcell %K Platinum %K Platinum-ruthenium %U http://www.chxb.cn/CN/abstract/abstract21489.shtml
