%X £¿In(OTf)3playstheroleofaLewisacidcatalystinthePechmanncondensationofphenolswith¦Â-ketoestersundersolvent-freeconditionstogivecoumarinderivatives.Thisnovelandinexpensivemethodhasadvantagessuchasshortreactiontime,excellentproductyields,andavoidstheuseoforganicsolventsinagreementwithgreenchemistryprinciples.Catalystloadingscanbeaslowas1mol%togivehighyieldsofthecorrespondingcoumarinsat80¡æ.Thecatalystcanberecoveredafterthereaction,andreusedwithonlyaslightdecreaseintheyield.
