%X £¿Cerium(IV)sulfatetetrahydrate,Ce(SO4)2¡¤4H2O,isanovelinorganicsolidacidiccatalystthatefficientlycatalyzesthesynthesisof2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-onesviatheone-potthree-componentreactionofisatoicanhydride,aromaticaldehydes,andanitrogensource(ammoniumacetate,ammoniumcarbonate,ammoniumchloride,ormethylamine)undersolvent-freeconditions.Thedesiredproductsareobtainedinshortreactiontimewithhighyields.Thecatalystisinexpensiveandreadilyavailableandcanberecoveredconvenientlyandreusedsuchthatconsiderablecatalyticactivitycanstillbeachievedafterthefifthrun.Easywork-upandavoidingtheuseofharmfulorganicsolventsareotheradvantagesofthissimpleprocedure.
