%X £¿Anefficientprocedureforthetrimethylsilylationofalcoholsandphenolsispresented.Thecombinationof1,1,1,3,3,3-hexamethyldisilazaneandacatalyticamountofphenyltrimethylammoniumtribromide(PhMe3N+Br3?)wasfoundtobeeffectiveforthetrimethylsilylationofalcoholsandphenols.Theprotectionreactionisverysimpleandhomogenouslyperformedindichloromethaneatroomtemperatureandmildconditions.
