%X TheHuabeiareainChinaiswidespreadlycoveredbyMiddleUpperProterozoicandLowerPalaeozoicmarinecarbonaterockswithseveralthousandmetersinthickness.Therearesomedifficultiesinstudyingthegeneticmechanismofhydrocarbonsinthesesourcerocksbecauseofthegenerallyhighmaturationoftheorganicmatter.ThepurposeofthepresentpaperistoevaluatewhetherornottheMiddleUpperProterozoicandLowerPalaeozoicmarinecarbonaterocksintheHuabeiareaareanimportantsuiteofhydrocarbonsourcerocksandtoprovidethepetroleumexplorationinthisareawithsomescientificdata.Thepresentpapermainlydealswiththecharacteristicsofsedimentaryenvironments,abundanceandmaturityoforganicmatter,kerogentypesandbiomarkersofthehydrocarbonsourcerockformedintheMiddleUpperProterozoicandLowerPalaeozoicstrataoftheHuabeiarea.Moreover,anevaluationonthepotentialhydrocarbongenerationofthesourcerockhasbeenmadeandfavorableareasfortheformationofthehydrocarbonsourcerockwithinthisareahavebeenpointedoutaswell.
