Smith %J Open Journal of Political Science %P 208-215 %@ 2164-0513 %D 2014 %I Scientific Research Publishing %R 10.4236/ojps.2014.44021 %X This article discusses the major implications for Russia¡¯s future immediately after the Cold War and primarily the period up into the late 1990s and beyond, when Russia was in turmoil politically and economically. It¡¯s economy that had recently recovered to a point that Yeltsin had left and Putin was beginning to solidify his power. Predictions were made as to what Russia¡¯s future looked like and how it appeared to be very similar to forecast its actions in the present day. The nationalistic sentiment felt in the late 1990s carried over to the current situation in Russia¡¯s involvement in what could have been or where it would go years later.
