%X El art¨ªculo propone un enfoque te¨®rico y metodol¨®gico para el estudio de las identidades regionales en Chile, especialmente de sus relaciones con las identidades ¨¦tnicas. Se definen y analizan dos niveles dentro de la identidad regional: las territoriales y las no-territoriales. Siguiendo este esquema se describen y comparan dos casos: el de la identidad aymara en Tarapac¨¢ y el de la identidad mapuche en Valdivia. Ello permite mostrar la pertinencia de utilizar un m¨¦todo hist¨®rico-comparativo; en este caso, dando cuenta del distinto lugar social de dichas identidades en cada Regi¨®n, siendo la identidad aymara, a diferencia de la mapuche-huilliche, identificada con "extranjeridad" andina, peruana y boliviana. La identidad regional muestra tambi¨¦n una diferente configuraci¨®n, dada la fuerte impronta de la colonizaci¨®n alemana, que no tiene equivalentes en Tarapac¨¢, donde hubo una mayor convivencia de nacionalidades europeas, andina y chilena. This article presents a theoretical and methodological approach to the study of the regional identities in Chile, especially concerning its relationships with ethnic identity. Two different levels inside the regional identity are defined and discussed: the territorial identities and the non-territorial identities. According to this framework two empirical cases are described and compared: aymara identity in Tarapac¨¢ and mapuche identity in Valdivia. That confirms the usefulness of an historical-comparative approach; in this case, to give account of the different social place of such identities in each Region. The aymara identity, unlike the mapuche one, is assimilated to Andean, Peruvian and Bolivian "foreigness". The regional identity exhibits also a different configuration because of the strong impact of the German colonization in Valdivia, which has no equivalent in Tarapac¨¢, where people of several nationalities: European, Andean and Chilean, coexisted in the same period.
