%X La notion de fronti¨¨re se confond avec l'histoire de l'humanit¨¦ et ses acceptions sont multiples. Fronti¨¨re-ligne, fronti¨¨re-zone, confins, limite entre la civilisation et son contraire, le sauvage, le d¨¦sert. La fronti¨¨re se situe au point d'¨¦quilibre de trois donn¨¦es sociologiques : le territoire, l'¨¦tat et la Nation. Marquant les contours d'un espace homog¨¨ne, elle participe au fondement de l'¨¦tat-Nation. H¨¦ritage de l'Histoire, son abornement est source de conflits lorsque fronti¨¨re et fondements ethniques, religieux ou culturels des peuples r¨¦sidants ne se recoupent pas comme dans le cas de la d¨¦colonisation en Afrique ou de la dissolution des anciens pays du bloc de l'Est. Compromis, ¨¦quilibre instable et sujet ¨¤ ¨¦volutions, il semble ¨¦vident qu'il ne peut exister aucune fronti¨¨re id¨¦ale.(The concept of borders is intertwined with human history and its uses are numerous: border-line, border-zone, confine, boundary between civilization and its opposite, the savage, the desert. The border sits at the intersection of three sociological concepts: territory, the nation-state, and historical heritage. Outlining a homogeneous space, a border is at the origin of the nation-state. Historically, the demarcation of borders has been a source of conflict when residents cannot be physically divided neatly according to their ethnic origins, religion and culture as was the case with the decolonization of Africa or the break-up of the former Eastern block. The result of compromises, unstable, and ever-evolving, it is evident that there is no such thing as an ideal border).
