%X Carlos Ponce Sangines (May 6, 1925 ¨C March 18, 2005) directed Bolivian archaeology for most of the last half of the 20th century. His view of how archaeology should be done in Bolivia has left a permanent stamp on the development of the field in that country, and on our understanding of the second great Andean empire, Tiwanaku.
