The new approach allows a holistic perspective on life course analysis and is based on arepresentation of lives as sequences of states. Some of the methods for analyzing such data aresketched, from complex description to optimal matching ot monoethetic divisive algorithms. Afer ashort ilustration of a demographically-relevant example, the needs in terms of data collection and theopportunities of applying the same aproach to synthetic data are discussed. %K sequence analysis %K life course %K lingitudinal data %K synthetic biographies %K monothetic divisive algorithm %U http://www.canpopsoc.ca/CanPopSoc/assets/File/publications/journal/CSPv28n2p439.pdf
