We present here a very brief history of the musical setting of French poetry by focusing on the period 1850-1950, which represents the ¡°golden age¡± of the ¡°French Song¡±, a genre caught between the poles of subjectivity (extreme attention to the letter of the text) and objectivity (predominance of musical structures).
