%X This article comments on Indigenous Australian art from an interculturalperspective. The painting Bush Tomato Dreaming (1998), by the Anmatyerre artistLucy Ngwarai Kunoth serves as model case for my argument that art expressesexistential social knowledge. In consequence, I will argue that social theory and arttheory together provide tools for intercultural understanding and competence.
