%X Este art¨ªculo analiza, a trav¨¦s de un enfoque geopol¨ªtico, el trasfondo de las Olimpiadas y de la Copa Mundial del F¨²tbol. Para determinar de qu¨¦ manera podr¨ªan ser estos eventos deportivos instrumentos geopol¨ªticos del Sistema Internacional, se revisar¨¢n los aspectos que envuelven las pr¨®ximas Olimpiadas a realizarse en China en 2008, as¨ª como el Mundial de F¨²tbol, en Sud¨¢frica en 2010. Se contextualizan los motivos de los pa¨ªses que se postularon para ser sedes, sus finalidades y posibles beneficios. Se sostiene que los Juegos Ol¨ªmpicos y la Copa Mundial de F¨²tbol son instrumentos pol¨ªticos internacionales utilizados por los Estados para perseguir sus intereses geopol¨ªticos.This paper analyzes the setting of the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup employing a geopolitical approach. To identify in which waythese international sports events are geopolitical instruments of the International System, I present a revision of different elements involved in the selection of China and South Africa as respective hosts of the Olympic Games of 2008 and the World Cup of 2010, such as the motives, goals and possible benefits of these two countries. In this way, I sustain the thesis that the Olympic Games and the World Cup are political instruments used by the States to pursue their geopolitical interests.
