%X The ap-pli-ca-tion of the two tec-hno-lo-gi-es: re-ver-se en-gi-ne-e-ring and ra-pid pro-totyping is emer-ging ra-pidly in the me-di-cal ap-pli-ca-ti-ons. The-se en-gi-ne-e-ring met-hods ha-ve espe-ci-ally shown fast advan-ce-ment in the fol-lo-wing ap-pli-ca-ti-ons: in very com-plex pre-pa-ra-tion of com-pu-ter aided sur-gery, com-pu-ter gu-i-ded im-plan-to-logy, non-in-va-si-ve di-ag-no-stic from CT and MRI scans, de-sign of cu-sto-mi-zed im-plants, ma-xil-lo-fa-ci-al sur-gery, est-he-tic and re-con-struc-ti-ve pla-stic sur-gery, ort-ho-pe-dic sur-gery, etc. This re-se-arch has a mul-ti-di-sci-pli-nary ap-pro-ach; it re-qu-i-res a te-am work of ex-perts from va-ri-o-us sci-en-ti-fic fi-elds such as CAD de-sign and vir-tual en-gi-ne-e-ring, di-gi-tal ima-ge pro-ces-sing, me-di-ci-ne, im-plan-to-logy. Only a very few ap-pli-ca-ti-ve pi-o-ne-er steps ha-ve been ma-de so far in Re-pu-blic of Srp-ska, Bo-snia and SE Euro-pe in ge-ne-ral.The aim of this re-se-arch is to ma-ke a con-tri-bu-tion to the op-ti-mi-za-tion of all three pha-ses: pre-pro-ces-sing, pro-ces-sing and post-pro-ces-sing in the pro-cess chain of re-ver-se en-gi-ne-e-ring ¨C ra-pid pro-totyping in the me-di-cal ap-pli-ca-ti-ons. The op-ti-mal pro-cess of ra-pid pro-totyping has been de-fi-ned for dif-fe-rent me-di-cal in-put da-ta and for-mats. The pro-cess in-clu-des in-ter-nal 3d re-con-struc-tion of CT and MRI scan-ning in DI-COM for-mat, such as ap-pli-ca-ti-ons in ort-ho-pe-dic sur-gery, ma-xil-lo-fa-ci-al sur-gery, prost-he-tic den-ti-stry, such as com-plex or to-tal prost-he-sis, as well as the ex-ter-nal sur-fa-ce re-con-struc-tion by 3d scan-ning, such as est-he-tic sur-gery and re-con-struc-tion pla-stic sur-gery or den-ti-stry ba-sed on 3d scan-ning from ela-stic si-li-co-ne im-pres-sion.
