Several studies have shown a relationship between double product break point (DPBP) and metabolic and ventilatory thresholds in patients of various diseases but there are no studies in athletes. The objective of this study was to determine whether DPBP occurs and if this is related to the anaerobic threshold in soccer players. Twelve soccer players were subjected to an incremental test on a treadmill and had heart rate, blood pressure and blood lactate were measured every 3 minutes. The DPBP was verified from an algorithm proposed by Ohtsuki & Watanabe (2007a) and lactate threshold (LT) was identified from visual inspection. It was possible to identify the LT in all athletes (average speed 12.1¡À0.8 km/h). The DPBP was observed in 4 athletes (33.3%) and the mean score was 12.0¡À0.0 km/h. The heart rate obtained at the time of LT was lower in 3 athletes than to heart rate from DPBP, SBP was lower in two athletes. Concluded that the DPBP is not an appropriate methodology to be used in soccer players. %K Soccer %K blood lactate %K double product %K performance %U http://www.brjb.com.br/files/brjb_143_5201106_id1.pdf
