%X This study aimed at doing a survey of potentially polluting activities in the city of Vassouras, RJ. Data analysis used database entries of the City¡¯s Finance Department concerning business licenses. A total of 1534 indexed activities were quantified, in which 385 enterprises that are subject to licensing. The Rio de Janeiro State issued 17 and the City of Vassouras issued 22 environmental permits. It was observed a number of 346 enterprises without environmental licenses, which represents 89.87% of the total.
