The-se oils dif-fer in the struc-tu-re and un-sa-tu-ra-tion, but each of-fer spe-ci-fic advan-ta-ges. Ve-ge-ta-ble oils are inex-pen-si-ve and of-fer dif-fe-rent de-gre-es of un-sa-tu-ra-tion. Fish oils may ha-ve a very high de-gree of un-sa-tu-ra-tion. Al-gal oils are new raw ma-te-ri-als with still unex-plo-red pos-si-bi-li-ti-es. Most oils are triglyce-ri-des but cas-hew nut oil is an aroma-tic com-po-und with a long hydro-car-bon chain. Di-rect polyme-ri-za-tion of oils has been used in co-a-tings for a long ti-me. Oils can be ther-mally polymerized by he-a-ting at a high tem-pe-ra-tu-re. The pro-ducts are oli-go-mers of high vi-sco-sity. We ha-ve de-ve-lo-ped a met-hod for ca-ti-o-nic polyme-ri-za-tion of oils at mild con-di-ti-ons, use-ful as lubricants and mo-di-fi-ers for rub-ber, asp-halt etc. Ho-we-ver, for high strength ma-te-ri-als, it is necessary to in-tro-du-ce fun-cti-o-nal gro-ups such are hydroxyls, car-boxyls, ami-ne etc. Hydroxyls are the most use-ful ones, sin-ce they open the who-le area of polyuret-ha-nes (fo-ams, co-a-tings, adhesives, ela-sto-mers and se-a-lants). One can uti-li-ze the triglyce-ri-de struc-tu-re or to use fatty acid de-ri-va-ti-ves, ope-ning a wi-de fi-eld of com-bi-na-ti-ons to su-it dif-fe-rent ma-te-rial requ-i-re-ments. This presen-ta-tion will gi-ve a cross-sec-tion of dif-fe-rent pos-si-bi-li-ti-es for crea-tion of new ma-te-ri-als from the bi-o-lo-gi-cal oils. %K Polymers %K vegetable oils %K renewavle raw materials %U http://www.savremenimaterijali.info/sajt/doc/file/casopisi/SM1_1/1-5%20petrovic.pdf
