%X The research in  Brazilian social thinking  is justified by the importance of understanding the concepts in debate on possible solutions to social problems. The research on the problems of hunger and the work of Josu¨¦ de Castro in that field was completed in 2009. Working on Gramsci's theory about the role of intellectuals, I¡¯ve researched the work of this author interviewing relatives and other intellectual contemporaries, as well as an exhaustive reading of his interviews published in books, magazines and newspapers. Having had access to his collection of documents, I researched his political activity, read his literature and watched movies about his life, for organizing a Seminar commemorating the centenary of his birth in 2008. Besides the seminar I wrote the article  Josu¨¦ de Castro a twentieth century man . The text includes a collection of the author, currently in press.
