%0 Journal Article %T N¡¯importe¡­ : s¡¯¨ºtre (ou s¡¯avoir) aim¨¦ %A Sylvie Triaire %J Flaubert : Revue Critique et G¨¦n¨¦tique %D 2010 %I Institut des Textes & Manuscrits Modernes (ITEM) %X L¡¯¨¦ducation sentimentale a donn¨¦ lieu ¨¤ des lectures divergentes, non seulement au XXe si¨¨cle, entre la vieille critique psychologisante et id¨¦alisatrice et la critique textuelle ¨¦teignant les ¨¦lans de la chair dans la stricte litt¨¦rarit¨¦, mais d¨¨s la publication du roman : d¡¯aucuns (rares) y sont sensibles ¨¤ la subtile et am¨¨re ironie qui d¨¦cape le d¨¦sir et en r¨¦v¨¨le l¡¯essentielle inactivit¨¦, quand d¡¯autres, plus nombreux, y stigmatisent la concupiscence g¨¦n¨¦ralis¨¦e. Le heurt de ces interpr¨¦tations r¨¦v¨¨le la profonde ambigu t¨¦ d¡¯un d¨¦sir que le roman choisit de ne jamais fixer. L¡¯examen de l¡¯excipit est int¨¦ressant dans la mesure o¨´ s¡¯y trouve activ¨¦e cette ind¨¦cision, selon des modalit¨¦s particuli¨¨res. Sur sa limite, en effet, le d¨¦sir amoureux, que le roman a pr¨¦alablement travaill¨¦ selon les deux axes antagonistes du platonisme ou de la chair, exacerbe et fond ces aspects. Se construit alors, fugacement, une repr¨¦sentation du d¨¦sir ¨¦chappant ¨¤ l¡¯alternative entre satisfaction et insatisfaction, pour appara tre comme ¨¦nergie et tension configuratrice trouvant une r¨¦solution.- En somme, n¡¯importe , puisque, in extremis, quelque chose a lieu. The ¨¦ducation sentimentale has led to conflicting interpretations, not only in the 20th Century, between the old psychological and idealistic criticism and textual criticism limited to strict literalness, but also when the novel was published. Some, but very few, were sensible to the subtle and bitter irony that strips desire and reveals its essential inactivity, while others, the majority, stigmatized its widely spread covetousness. The clash of these interpretations reveals the deep ambiguity of a desire that the novel chooses never to pin down. A study of the pleading is interesting in so far as it is where this indecision is activated. On this boundary the amorous desire is shown to be strangely disturbing compared with what it was before. This desire which the novel has previously arranged according to two antagonistic directions, love and Platonism, exacerbates and dissolves each of its parts, to produce a representation of desire, not as satisfaction or dissatisfaction, but as an energy and a shaping tension that finds its resolution.
