%X Le mot   b¨ºtise   en fran ais est polys¨¦mique et graduel et il ne semble pas y avoir en espagnol d'¨¦quivalent qui recouvre la totalit¨¦ de ses acceptions. Cette situation acquiert des proportions consid¨¦rables lorsqu'il s'agit de traduire Flaubert : en fran ais flaubertien le mot   b¨ºtise   s'¨¦tend comme on sait sur toute une gamme de signifi¨¦s, et le sens et le degr¨¦ de nuisance que Flaubert lui attribue changent incessamment selon le contexte. Or une ¨¦tude suivie des occurrences de   b¨ºtise   dans des ¨¦ditions argentines montre que ce qui se perd en premier dans le processus de traduction est justement cet emploi r¨¦p¨¦t¨¦ du mot : ¡°torpeza¡±, ¡°estupidez¡±, ¡°barbaridad¡±, ¡°idiotez¡±, ¡°necedad¡±, ¡°tonter¨ªa¡± sont quelques unes des ¨¦quivalences retenues par les traducteurs. Quels sont les effets de ce manque sur la textualit¨¦ flaubertienne lorsqu'elle est traduite en espagnol ? Et est-ce n¨¦cessairement un manque ? The word ¡°b¨ºtise¡± is in French polysemic and gradual and there does not seem to be an equivalent in Spanish that covers the totality of its occurrences. The problem gets patently worse when translating Flaubert: in Flaubertian French the word ¡°b¨ºtise¡± spreads, as we know, to a whole range of signifiers, and the meaning and degree of nuisance that Flaubert attributes to it change constantly according to the context. Now the study of the occurrences of ¡°b¨ºtise¡± in Argentinean editions show that what is lost at first in the translation process is precisely this repeated use of the word: ¡°torpeza¡±, ¡°estupidez¡±, ¡°barbaridad¡±, ¡°idiotez¡±, ¡°necedad¡±, ¡°tonter¨ªa¡± are a few of the equivalences given by the translators. What are the effects of this deficiency on the Flaubertian text when it is translated into Spanish? And is it necessarily a deficiency?
