%X In this article the authors sustain that president Vicente Fox's ambiguous response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11, in combination with Mexico's decisi¨®n not to support the U.S. led coalition in Iraq, marked the transition from honeymoon to mutual deception between the presidents of M¨¦xico and the United States. Nevertheless, the importance of the bilateral relationship for the two countries has facilitated the preservation of pragmatic cooperation. The text concludes with a series of recommendations for improving the state of Mexican-U.S. relations during the final years of the Fox govemment.
