%X Barbitones (3) were synthesised by the condensation of chalcones (2) with barbituric acid. The structure of the synthesized compounds were assigned on the basis of elemental analyses, IR, NMR and mass spectral studies. All the products were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against various strains of bacteria and fungi.
